Enthralled with Nan Kempner.....

When other little girls would devour Vogue and imagined themselves becoming a model. I wanted to be Nan Kempner. I lived for Town & Country and would just fancy any article on Nan. To me - she was like my Princess Diana. I was enamored with all that she wore. I found her to be beyond chic. I once had an assignment in school... we where to describe what you wanted to be when you grew up. When I presented my project with images of Nan and described her grand life and style...let's just say I don't think my fourth grade teacher appreciated it. So my question to you is... who do you think has posh style today? Who did you admire?

  1. I was just telling hubby last night that I don't feel like we have style icons anymore. As Americans we have become so trashy... shorts & t-shirts of the worst kind on airplanes instead of dressing up to fly, tattoos EVERYWHERE, nose rings, etc. Hollywood has taught us "the grungier the better". I've even worn pants to church before, which my mother would NEVER dream of doing! We've dumbed ourselves down. So, I can't wait to hear who has a sense of fashion TODAY like Jackie O or Nan... classy!

  2. I'm not really sure I have a fashion icon of today. I love Audrey, Jackie, and Lilly P herself, but really I don't have a current fashion icon

  3. "Icon"-definitely jackie o....i also love reese witherspoon(its weird to say that because usually "icon" is not someone of our generation) but I love her style and especially how she refuses to let her own little girl grow up too fast(that seems like a dying art these days)..

  4. Petunia....
Yes!! Can you believe it. When we looked at the house we are living in now... the walk-in closet is similar. Very old school with the three rows to hang cloths. It totally had me at hello. Now the house is starting to feel a little like the money pit. The joys of an older home!!
Pinot after Playdates... I totally agree with not letting my little girls grow up too fast. How about some of those outfits for little ones!!

  5. I don't know. I love Carla Bruni, and Victoria Beckham has decent style and sometimes Katie Holmes (when she isn't being all crazy with Tom).

  6. OMGosh when did you start this blog??? I adore it! LOVE IT! My style icon, my grandmother who was so much like Coco-Channel. My icons (other than my grandmother) Audrey, Jackie & Grace (Kelly, of course!)

Taking a few minutes of my valuable and very limited internet time to post to you!!!

  7. I agree with Pinot, I really admire Reese Witherspoon & think she is the closest thing to an icon we have these days.

  8. Ooooh, talk about eye candy! The closet shots are the best, for some reason we have always loved those photos. (Why is that???)

So happy to find you here too!

  10. My grandmother always had the best fashion sense. She was an absolute icon to me. She never ventured out of the house without being put together. Never a hair out of place and always wore her perfume delicately. I don't think I EVER saw her in a t-shirt. Come to think of it, I don't think she owned one.
